Sterling Department of Public Works Board appoints chairman to MWRA Pilot Committee. Blaine Bershad was approved unanimously to represent the board on a regional water rates and infrastructure committee formed by the Select Board, which also seeks representatives from the Finance Board, Select Board, and two members of the public. The board spent most of the February 11 meeting on PFAS contamination: Stantec consultants reported Worcester Road wells 2A, 2B, and 2C are operating above federal limits, with December samples at 6.55 parts per trillion, triggering both immediate bottled water rebates and a long-term Corrective Action Plan submitted to the state.
Treatment options under review include a new facility using granular activated carbon and green sand filtration. Water rate increases tied to treatment costs will be debated through June 2026.
