Finance and Capital Budget Committees approve FY27 capital spending plan totaling $3.7M
Capital Budget Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026
STERLING — Joint Finance and Capital Budget Committees approved a $3.7 million capital funding map for FY27, drawing from $570.6 thousand in Capital Investment Fund reserves, $1.187 million in free cash, and $715 thousand in new debt exclusion borrowing. The Western Massachusetts Regional School District will increase Sterling's assessment by 2.4 percent, lower than the originally projected four percent, thanks to the district's transfer of $1 million in excess funds to its operating budget and Sterling's 0.39 percent minimum required contribution. Major projects include a $300 thousand DPW truck, $300 thousand in fire public safety communications, $135 thousand for Houghton School communications equipment, and a revised $25 million estimate for a new DPW facility, down from $31 million or more previously forecast.
