Finance and Capital Budget Committees approve presentation schedule, chart FY27 budget strategy

Sterling Finance and Capital committees approve two-date departmental budget presentation schedule, positioning FY27 budget strategy around a more-than-$400,000 preliminary shortfall. Finance Committee Chair Joseph King outlined a series of potential cost reductions--restructuring DPW borrowing, moderating Police wage growth, and revisiting dispatch contingencies--and stated that a general override can be deferred if the Town Administrator identifies cuts and school budgets hold to a 4 percent increase. The committees also advanced a proposal to explore establishing trash pickup as a town enterprise in FY28 or later, and moved forward a DPW Building Committee plan to shrink the proposed new facility 25 percent, from 35,000 to 27,000 square feet, while evaluating the cost of remaining at the current site.
