Sterling Finance and Capital Budget committees chart FY27 budget strategy without voter override. Finance Committee Chair Joseph King presented a preliminary outlook showing more than $400,000 out of balance and outlined 10 potential cost-reduction areas, including restructuring $500,000 in DPW design borrowing to save $75,000 annually and negotiating limits on Police wage growth ($304,000 / 14.7%). The committees unanimously approved a Stand and Present schedule for department budget presentations January 29 and February 5.
King proposed exploring conversion of the $788,000 trash service to a town enterprise beginning in FY28 to improve cost transparency and moderate future override pressure over time.
