Finance Committee reviews Fire, Ambulance, and DPW budgets for FY2027

STERLING — Finance and Capital Budget committees review departmental FY2027 budgets totaling $4.7M in operations. Lt. Tom Kokernak, incoming Fire Chief, presented a $2.1 million operating budget and $28,600 capital request, holding overall increases to 0.58 percent despite handling 2,051 calls in 2025 and maintaining response times despite staffing shortages.
DPW Superintendent Ryan Mouradian requested $2.6 million in operations and $667,000 in capital, including Route 62 and Route 140 intersection design work, cemetery wall replacement, and fleet vehicles. A regional dispatch transition to Nashoba Valley in June will be funded by $1.4 million in state 911 funding, with a $300,000 request pending to cover DPW and light department integration costs.
