Open Space panel reviews grant prospects, plans park dedication.

STERLING — Open Space Implementation Committee advances park dedication and mapping strategy. Chuck Plaisted reported the updated Open Space and Recreation Plan is now valid for 10 years and that the committee is pursuing state grants through the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission; members discussed using the free MassMapper platform instead of paying MRPC for mapping work. The committee set April 23 at 6 p.m. for the Waushacum Park dedication ceremony and assigned Sue Valentine to research the property's history and identify key invitees, including representatives of the Nipmuc Indians.
Plaisted and Paul Lekberg installed QR code stickers on trail kiosks to allow hikers to download maps to their phones.
