OSIC Advances Open Space and MassTrails Grant Planning

STERLING — The Open Space Implementation Committee unanimously approved its prior meeting minutes and advanced a $102,000 MassTrails grant proposal for a hedgerow project along the Pendleton property boundary, with the town contributing $17,000, raising Sterling's share to 40 percent. Chair Chuck Plaisted reported the Committee has also applied for an MSRP grant to complete the Open Space Revised Plan and expects results in due course. The Committee continued scoring Chapter 61 properties for its Open Space Priorities List, with Davis Farmland earning 22 points for adjacency to wetlands and recreational potential; focus will be on 25 to 30 eligible Chapter 61 parcels exceeding 25 acres.
Results of the MassTrails grant should arrive within 6 to 8 months.
