Select Board approves discussion forum plan for $25M DPW facility project.
Select Board · Meeting of March 4, 2026
STERLING — Select Board opens $25M DPW facility project to resident input. DPW Superintendent Ryan Mouradian and his team presented a redesigned 6,700-square-foot building at $25 million--down from an initial $33 million estimate--driven by worker safety and building obsolescence; the current facility will require major repairs in approximately 18 months. Select member Maureen Cranson moved to schedule the project for a Special Town Meeting with informational forums and public facility tours beforehand, with cost-per-taxpayer calculations prominently featured.
Finance Committee Chair Mr. King proposed a $15 million alternative; Mouradian and DPW Committee Chair Jonathon Morini deemed it unrealistic under Massachusetts prevailing wage requirements and hard construction costs.
