Select Board approves fire chief contract, appoints committee members.
Select Board · Meeting of February 11, 2026
STERLING — Select Board ratifies fire chief contract, makes four committee appointments and defers COLA. The board unanimously approved the Fire Chief contract ratified from executive session, while Administrator Bill Caldwell deferred his initial recommendation for a three percent cost-of-living increase for non-union personnel to two percent, asking for deferral pending final school district and health insurance figures due in mid-February. The board appointed Robert Govoni and Richard Maki to the Cable Advisory Committee, Richard Trania and Eric Newman to the newly formed MWRA PILOT Committee (seeking to negotiate increased state funding for the Boston water supply land comprising 44 percent of town open space), and Carol Stewart-Grinkis to the Cultural Council.
The town faces a current deficit of 380,000 dollars with 500,000 dollars in stabilization funding applied, and Chair Newman indicated a potential two and one-half percent override may be necessary.
