Sterling committees weigh $25M DPW building and school budget savings
Capital Budget Committee · Meeting of March 19, 2026
Sterling Finance and Capital Budget committees reviewed a streamlined $25 million DPW building proposal slated for May Town Meeting, while approving a $2 million school-district budget decrease that reduces the overall town budget increase to 1.5 percent. A $315,000 Capital Investment Fund allocation will cover a six-wheel dump truck without debt, freeing planned borrowing for Public Safety communications upgrades and cemetery wall design. The Finance Committee will vote on the DPW facility once warrant articles are prepared; members cautioned that taxpayers need full clarity on disposition costs for the current facility and affordability of a $25 million project, the town's largest, amid potential future expenses including a $3 million cemetery wall.
